NBA teams are actively exploring Ime Udoka for head coaching opportunities

Dear NBA teams looking at Ime Udoka as a potential coach candidate despite being suspended for a year on Celtics, please don’t.

Ime Udoka will not be Celtics coach for the 2022-23 season, and he is unlikely to return as their coach until after his one-year suspension for workplace misconduct expires.

That doesn’t mean he can’t be an NBA head coach again soon.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski shed more light on Udoka’s comment on Friday, including how “rude language” with a subordinate contributed to the lengthening of his sentence.

The reporter also dropped details of Odoka’s future looking very poor.

“…sources told ESPN that the Celtics wouldn’t stand in Odoka’s way if he had the opportunity to become a candidate to coach elsewhere,” Wojnarowski’s books. “There are teams that have attempted to gather a preliminary understanding of the full explanation of Odoka’s comment in preparation for his possible evaluation of a future coaching job,” sources told ESPN.

NBA teams are said to be scouting for Ime Udoka to hire a potential coach

Let’s just call it what it is: That’s gross.

Odoka led the Celtics to the NBA Finals in his first season. He is clearly a good coach. So isn’t this all about his misdeeds that Boston won’t tolerate? They had the most to lose here and weren’t willing to give Odoka a slap on the wrist. Instead, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck took the trickier route by going after such a long suspension.

“It’s a sense of conscience and membrane,” Grosbeek said. “We came to this collectively and got there but it wasn’t clear what to do but it was clear that there was something substantive to do, and it was.”

This should be enough information for every other team in the league to know that Odoka does not deserve a head coaching opportunity until he makes up, completes his punishment and clearly learns from his mistakes.

Now there is a real possibility that a team with a coach on the hot seat will make an early move to the season with an eye on grabbing Udoka even before his suspension is complete. If that happens, we’ll all know we’re all living through our darkest timeline.
